Cookie Policy

This policy explains how TierScope uses cookies, browser local storage and similar technologies. It supplements the Privacy Policy.
1. What we use
In this policy, "cookies" means both cookie files and other browser storage technologies: localStorage, sessionStorage and IndexedDB. They are treated in the same way for legal purposes: technologies that are not strictly necessary require the user's consent before they are placed in the browser. This follows Directive 2002/58/EC (ePrivacy) and its national implementations, as well as Russian regulatory practice regarding analytics identifiers.
2. Categories
2.1. Strictly necessary
The Service cannot function without these technologies. Consent is not required.
| Name / key | Storage location | Retention period | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
accessToken | memory | session | Authorizes API requests |
auth-storage | localStorage | until logout or site data deletion | Stores authentication state, including the refresh token and current user data |
cookieConsent | localStorage | until site data deletion or policy version change | Stores your cookie banner choice |
NEXT_LOCALE | cookie | until language change or cookie deletion | Stores the interface language |
theme | localStorage | indefinite | Stores the selected theme |
tierscope:pwa-install-dismissed-at | localStorage | 24 hours | Hides the PWA install prompt after dismissal |
tierscope:animations-enabled | localStorage | indefinite | Stores the interface animation setting |
tierscope-view-mode | localStorage | indefinite | Stores the tier list view mode |
2.2. Analytics (optional, requires consent)
Analytics technologies are used only after explicit consent in the cookie banner. Before consent is received, the Yandex Metrica script is not loaded in the browser: the counter tag is absent from the DOM and no network requests to mc.yandex.ru are made.
| Name / key | Provider | Retention period | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
_ym_uid | Yandex Metrica | 12 months | Unique user identifier for analytics |
_ym_d | Yandex Metrica | 12 months | First visit date |
_ym_isad | Yandex Metrica | 1 day | Indicates absence of advertising |
_ym_visorc | Yandex Metrica | 30 minutes | Webvisor state, if enabled |
yandexuid | Yandex Metrica | 12 months | Browser identifier within the Yandex ecosystem |
The complete list of Yandex Metrica cookies and their purposes is available at: https://yandex.ru/legal/metrica_termsofuse/
3. What we do with analytics
With the user's consent, Yandex Metrica helps us measure:
- page views and navigation between pages;
- traffic sources and website behavior;
- technical parameters, such as device type, screen resolution and browser version, in a de-identified form;
- usage of specific features, such as how often swipe mode is used.
Before page views are sent, we sanitize sensitive URLs: login, registration and password recovery pages are sent as de-identified paths without parameters.
We do not use Yandex Metrica for:
- retargeting or behavioral advertising;
- transferring data to advertising networks;
- combining analytics data with account data in our systems beyond product improvement purposes.
4. Consent
On the first visit to the Service, a cookie banner is shown with the following options:
- Accept all - gives consent to all cookie categories, including analytics.
- Necessary only - rejects analytics; only the technologies in category 2.1 remain active.
- Customize - allows a category-by-category choice.
Before the user makes a choice:
- analytics scripts are not loaded;
- no optional cookies are set;
- only strictly necessary technologies are active.
The user's choice is stored in cookieConsent (see table 2.1) and tied to this policy version. If a new policy version expands the scope of data collection, consent is requested again.
5. Managing your choice
- You can change your choice at any time via the Cookie settings link in the Service footer.
- Withdrawing analytics consent stops loading the Yandex Metrica script and keeps only strictly necessary technologies. Existing cookies and site data can be deleted through browser settings.
- You can also delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. Instructions: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
Rejecting analytics does not block the core TierScope features.
6. Third-party resources on Service pages
- Movie posters are loaded from our S3-compatible storage hosted in Russia whenever possible. If a local poster copy is unavailable, the interface may load an image from the TMDB CDN (
image.tmdb.org). Main TMDB API requests are made by the Service backend. - User avatars are loaded from the same storage in Russia.
- The Service does not embed external widgets, social media buttons or embedded trackers on its pages.
7. Changes to this policy
If the set of cookies we use changes, for example because a new analytics service is added, this policy will be updated, the date and version in the document header will change, and consent will be requested again. Non-material edits, such as wording clarifications, apply from the moment of publication.
